OBD1 Honda Socket Kit Installation Instructions (USDM)

OBD1 Honda ECU Socket Kit Installation Guide (USDM 92‑95)

We sell the complete OBD1 Honda ECU Socket Kit required for this installation.

This guide covers the installation of the socket kit into USDM OBD1 Honda/Acura ECUs (1992–1995), allowing the ECU to be chipped for tuning.

Installation Steps

1. Remove solder from component holes

Clear solder from the following locations using desoldering braid or a pump:

  • IC4
  • IC3
  • CN2 (if installing datalogging)
  • C51 and C52
  • J1
  • R54 (if present)

2. Install IC latch (74HC373) at IC4

  • Solder the 74HC373 chip directly into position IC4 on the ECU board.

3. Install socket or pin header at IC3

  • Add the socket or pin header to location IC3 to allow the tuning chip to be installed.

4. Install 4‑pin datalog header at CN2 (optional)

  • Remove the J12 resistor (not shown in diagram) to enable datalogging functionality.

5. Install 0.1µF capacitors at C51 and C52

  • Place capacitors at C51 and C52 to stabilize the circuit.

6. Install jumper or 0Ω resistor at J1

  • This connects the tuning circuitry; a simple wire jumper or leftover component lead can be used.

7. Install 1.2kΩ resistor at R54 (if present)

  • Some ECUs have a resistor location at R54; if present, install a 1.2kΩ resistor here. (Not required if R54 is missing.)

Important Notes

  • Diagram below highlights the areas you will be modifying.
  • The J12 resistor location is not pictured in the diagram but must be removed if installing the optional datalogging header.
