Why Does My ECU Need to Be Refurbished?
The 1992–1995 Honda/Acura OBD1 ECUs (commonly referred to as “P28”) are notorious for failing due to leaking capacitors. Over the past 30 years, these capacitors have leaked corrosive electrolyte onto the circuit board, which:
- Eats through the protective conformal coating
- Damages the solder mask
- Corrodes the delicate traces that connect critical components
In the past, these ECUs were often discarded and replaced with junkyard units, but dwindling supply has led to skyrocketing prices. Important Note on Corrosion Repair
This service includes only minor corrosion repair. If your ECU requires extensive corrosion or trace repairs, additional charges may apply. We will contact you with an estimate before performing any extra work.
Our Refurbish Process
Inspection & Diagnosis
- We perform a courtesy inspection and diagnostic to identify existing damage.
- Findings are documented and shared with you.
- If additional repairs or modifications are needed, we’ll contact you for approval before starting work.
Board Preparation
- All electrolytic capacitors and damaged components are removed.
- Both sides of the PCB are stripped of the factory conformal coating and compromised solder mask.
- The board is treated to stop the spread of corrosion and tested for continuity.
Repair & Restoration
- Exposed areas receive fresh solder mask.
- Damaged traces (if approved) are repaired and verified.
- New high-quality Würth capacitors and required parts are installed.
- A fresh UV-reactive conformal coating is applied to both sides for long-term protection.
Reassembly & Testing

The ECU is reassembled and tested to ensure full functionality.

Worth the wait! There was a little while before mine went to be diagnosed, but it was free so no complaints! The day it was my turn, there was open communication in the diagnostics and how to move forward with the ECU! The repairs were made based on my needs and recommendations and now I received it within 3 days of the repairs! The repairs look very clean and sleek with some nice touches of red capacitors and the fuel chip upgrade!

Honestly couldn’t have had a better experience.Tyler went above and beyond with helping me fix other issues then once we realized it was ecu getting it taken care of right. Response time was amazing, had full clarity as to what was going on with pictures of exactly what was messed up. Ecu works amazing now and got the snake upgrade done while it was there. They answered all my questions I had, were really helpful and professional. I asked to get give me a call to explain the situation better and they did call me right away and explained everything to me. Definitely will recommend to friends. I just received my ecu yesterday and my car starts right up no issues. And the price was reasonable nothing crazy expensive in my opinion.

Turnaround time was a bit longer than expected but that was due to holidays and a long possibly a longer list of people wanting services. They do provide a queue service so you know how far back yours is in line which I thought was great. Once mine was up it was really quick. They also provided pictures and services done while they are working on it so great communication. The shipping back was faster than it being sent out. Product worked as promised and glad I used their services.

OxyTuned saved the day. I had sent my ECU to another repair service and they failed to fix my ECU. I Then sent my ECU to OxyTuned and they prevailed where others had failed. Tyler's communication was awesome. He kept me up to date during the whole refurb process. He even sent me pictures of the progress. I love the queue that you can see updates of where you are in line so that you can get an idea of when the work will begin.
